For more than 75 years, Geelong health insurer GMHBA has been working together with local people to build healthier communities.

As a leading national not-for-profit health fund, GMHBA prides itself on putting members before profit with award winning customer service and by actively supporting community health and wellbeing initiatives such as yesterday’s Run Geelong event.

GMHBA Chief Executive Officer Mark Valena said the company came on board as event partner of Run Geelong because the staff are passionate about helping the community.

“We know how passionate our staff and members are about community engagement and we want to actively promote health and wellbeing activities such as this,” he said.

“Knowing that 100 per cent of entry fees go to the Geelong Hospitals children’s ward redevelopment gives us a real sense of giving back and supporting local people in need – something which Geelong residents are so good at.

“The Geelong Hospital children’s ward has been transformed due to the support of this event and we are truly humbled to be part of this change.”

More than 60 GMHBA employees participated in yesterday’s event with family members and friends at Geelong’s waterfront.

The health insurer was also recognised last week in the Financial Review Smart Investor SMILES Survey as Best Health Insurer for customer service.

The Smart Investor SMILES Survey is unique within the finance industry and is regarded as one of the most comprehensive resources of customer feedback.

Thousands of Australians give their opinion on a range of factors each year to identify the companies providing the best customer service.

“We are the ninth largest health fund in Australia, fourth largest in our state, so to be singled out for our customer service is really pleasing and something our staff are extremely proud of,” Mr Valena said.
