After years of avidly diarising my overseas adventures, I made the leap from journalist and deputy features editor with News Limited (Geelong Advertiser) to freelance travel, food and lifestyle writer, columnist, editor, reviewer, copywriter, photographer, videographer, speaker and fiction writer.

For almost two years in between I was a Senior Reporter for Zoos Victoria, having had the great pleasure of telling the not-for-profit organisation's incredible stories - from keepers' adventures to conservation campaigns - from my office at Werribee Open Range Zoo, before returning to freelance content creation.

My freelance words appear in publications such as National Geographic TravellerBBC Travel, Australian TravellerCollective HubBroadsheetDaily Life, The Sunday Age, Nourish and Australian Natural Health magazinesAWOL (QANTAS' youth travel website), Time Out, Get Up and Go, Travel Adventure Magazine (UK)Flight CentreWhimnKidspot and Music Australia Guide (MAG) and my columns have been syndicated by the New York Postthe Daily Mail, news.com.au and The Daily Telegraph.

My publicityhas gained global coverage on media outlets such as ABC World News, Fox News, BBC World News, Press Association London, The Guardian UK, The New York Post, Gizmo, Geek, Unliad, Lad Bible UK, Mashable, 9GAG, MSN, Yahoo, and many more, including local coverage on Sunrise and 7:30 Report and in The Sunday Age.

I've taken the photos for many of my feature stories and have also filmed and edited video content for online publications and Network TV News.

I write copy for businesses, too. I often work with designers, videographers and photographers to create compelling content for businesses.

I also write fiction. When I was 10 years old, I used to copy pages of The Baby-Sitters Club into my own handwriting and present the pages to my mum as if the words were my own. Mum never called me out on it, only encouraged me to keep 'writing'. Good on you, Mum. Thankfully, I eventually decided plagiarism wasn't the path for me and started writing my own fiction.

I have been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize. Bloomsbury UK published one of my short stories for children in an e-book anthology of re-imagined fairy tales (think Snow White set at NASA!). I also have a story (inspired by sea dragons!) in Margaret River Press’ beautiful annual print anthology after being shortlisted for the Margaret River Short Story Prize

I'm currently working on two manuscripts. The Colour of Air is a contemporary YA novel set on a small Australian island. I was awarded a Varuna Residency Fellowship for this manuscript. I attended the writers' house where I began drafting my second novel. Therefore I am is a contemporary YA novel set in London. This work in progress earned me a place in the ACT Writers Centre's professional development program, HARDCOPY.

I love writing fiction about nature, technology and mental health and am extremely passionate about the Australian YA community.

At the Geelong AdvertiserI was a feature writer, news journalist and deputy editor of the features department producing two nationally-recognised weekend lifestyle magazines (Geelong Today Magazine and Home Magazine) and multiple bi-annual and annual publications, such as the region’s Bride, Food & Wine and Our Place magazines.

My long-form feature on the human face of homelessness in Geelong, my profile on Cats footballer Joel Selwood and my touching series of interviews with the family of a missing man were all highly-regarded.

As a Senior Reporter for Zoos Victoria (based at Werribee Open Range Zoo), I led the publicity across all mediums for conservation stories and campaigns, zoo events and experiences, and general zoo news. I was part of a team that increased the earned publicity for Zoos Victoria by 55% in one year.

I co-ordinated live TV crosses; had my own photos and footage published in newspapers, on TV and online nationally; planned and hosted media events; networked with bloggers and influencers; organised radio and podcast interviews and much more.

I have a Masters in Media Practice, a Degree in Media and Communications, a Diploma in Journalism and a Certificate II in Animal Studies.

I am available for school speaking opportunities. I recently spoke to 170 grade five and six students about non-fiction writing as part of Bannockburn Primary's Be Inspired program. Most of their questions were about my cat. Maybe I shouldn't have brought in that photo.

I've travelled to more than 50 countries but when I'm in Australia I live on the Surf Coast, Victoria, and attempt to surf.

You may remember me from game shows such as Deal or No Deal and Family Feud and my three minutes of fame on Channel 7's Sunrise
