When finding new vodka flavours to tantalise the tastebuds of Geelong bar hoppers, Cloud 9 Bar and Lounge owner Gorge Camorra took a step back in time.

“All the lollies you ate in the playground as kids, like red skins, toffee apples, skittles and fruit tingles, we now make into alcoholic drinks: Vodka Infusions,” he said.

So far Gorge has created 23 flavours on location at the Pakington Street address, with his Vodka Infusion creations the first to be made in Geelong, if not Victoria.

“We’re well known in Geelong for our quality selection of spirits and cocktails, with more than 200 different spirits sourced from all over the world,” he said.

Participating in local, state and national cocktail making competitions, Gorge hopes professional recognition in the industry will help continue to spur his business.

Recently Gorge and Peter from Cloud 9 competed and won the state finals for the Jagermeister cocktail making competition, where they had to create, make and present three cocktails to the judges in front of a packed venue of fellow bartenders.

To teach future bar staff the art of drink mixing, Gorge has become a hospitality trainer through Complex Training Academy for those seeking qualifications in the industry.  

“We offer certificate II and III in hospitality courses, coffee barista courses, responsible service of alcohol and responsible gaming certificate,” he said. “All of the courses are taught in the venue, not in a classroom”.

As for the future, Gorge is looking at developing a café a few doors down from Cloud 9, with a unique menu in the next few months.
